General Hospital

I must admit that I do watch General Hospital. I started with the NBC soaps then made my way to the CBS soaps. I watched them faithfully for years until I finally forced myself to stop watching them. A couple of years ago I was in California for fun and ended up having an awful vacation and I was introduced to the ABC stories. I watched them for a little over a year before I stopped watching them one by one. Last fall when I discovered that James Franco would be making a guest appearance on General Hospital was interest in the show was renewed. I having been faithfully watching ever since, and that brings me to the reason for this post.

Kristina and Keifer

One of the current major story lines is that of Sonny's daughter Kristina and her abusive boyfriend Keifer. Sonny is Port Charles' biggest mobster and his daughter is 15 or 16 (we will ignore the fact that she was born in 2002 and this is only 2010) and her boyfriend is 17. Keifer has been physically, verbally, and mentally abusive to Kristina for quite some time. Her older brother Michael has seen some subtle hints of this and has tried to keep his sister away from the kid to no avail. Someone else who has come to her rescue is Ethan, who is the Australian illegitimate child of Luke Spencer who just arrived in town last year. Ethan is a much older guy who was nice to Kristina. He would always show up just in the nick of time before Keifer hit Kristina. Because of his kindness towards her Kristina developed a big crush on Ethan. He never discouraged her crush but when her older sister caught wind of it she told Ethan to stay away from Kristina. He realized he was wrong to lead her on and he told her that they could not hang out anymore. To get Ethan's attention Kristina did some really childish things all to make herself seem more mature. Needless to say it all backfired. She had her little sister hack into Ethan and his dates email accounts and cancel their date with each other and showed up at the casino that Luke owns and Ethan works at. Ethan had told Kristina numerous times that he wasn't interested and when he found out what she did he lost his temper in a bad way. He told her to leave because she was underage and she could get the casino shut down but she wouldn't. So, he grabbed her arm to take her out but he didn't know his own strength and he accidentally bruised her arm. When her older sister saw this she read Ethan the riot act. When Ethan and Luke told her what Kristina did she refused to believe it. Too bad for Ethan.

While Kristina was in the midst of her crazy shenanigans her boyfriend went to her house to find her because she stood him up to try to get Ethan. He went to her house banged on her door and called her derogatory words. He waited in the bushes for her return home and when she got there he waited until she was alone, knocked on the door and burst in and started beating her. He beat her face to a pulp, called her a b****, said it was her fault, and left her for dead on her living room floor.

After Ethan found out from Kristina's sister that he accidentally bruised her arm he went to her house to apologize and what he found was a beaten Kristina. He went to her and she scratched his face because she thought it was her boyfriend returning to finish the job. Ethan immediately took her to General Hospital. He stayed for awhile until he was drained. He took his cop brother that he knew where to find him for questioning. When Kristina's mother and father arrived they told Kristina to tell Ethan's cop brother, Lucky, who attacked her. Do you know who she said almost killed her? She said Ethan! Of all of the things she could have said she blamed the person who was innocent. If she didn't want to tell on her boyfriend, only God knows why she wouldn't, she could have said that she did not see her attacker. She did not have to blame an innocent man.

I am really angry with the writers. I know that it is a soap opera but does that mean that the writing has to be awful. The James Franco storyline was actually pretty interesting, but this is horrible. Maybe it's me. I just don't like accusing innocent people of heinous crimes. There is not a compelling story in there somewhere, it is just plain awful and despicable. I have been saying for months that her boyfriend was going to beat her up really bad or kill her. When I found out that he was finally going to beat her up enough that she had to go to the hospital I was so happy because I thought "finally he will get what he deserves and he won't be able to hurt her anymore." My luck is awful. Not only does he not get outed but someone else is accused of his abuse instead. Sonny is a mobster who kills people who get in his way, so that leaves Ethan running for his life. I just hate when innocent people are treated so unjustly. That is one of the reasons I am boycotting "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and Stars on Ice. I can't do anything about "The Tonight Show" but I can sign petitions and boycott any organization that discriminates against my beloved Johnny Weir.

I almost went off on a tangent there but I reigned myself in. Johnny gets a separate post sometime in the near future, but there are others who can do Johnny more justice with their words than I ever could and that is why I leave the writing to them and the reading to me.

Back to the subject at hand. I just think that General Hospital could have showed that abuse is a serious crime. Women should not protect their abusers, they should have the courage to bring those animals to justice. There is no justice for anyone is this story and no moral to it. What do you think of this? I really want to write the writers because this shows that people can get away with murder. I know that Kristina felt scorned by Ethan, but what is worse: A guy rejecting you that you were never with or the man you gave yourself to in a biblical sense, who claimed to have loved you, attacking you and leaving you for dead? It's such a tough choice but I'm going to have to go with the latter.
